INVENTION OF COMPUTERS IS NOT THE "CREATURE" OF QURAN 27:82

Rashad Khalifa translated Quran 27:82 as follows:

AT THE RIGHT TIME, we will produce for them a creature, made of earthly materials, declaring that the people are not certain about our revelations

Since even Khalifa could NOT find the word "computer" in the original Arabic, he added the following "footnote":

*27:82 (2+7+8+2 = 19) The computer was required to unveil the Quran's mathematical miracle, and it proved that most people have discarded God's message (see Appendices 1 & 19).

This translation and hadith from Rashad Khalifa represent gross distortions of the original Arabic.

First, "the root of the word "daabah" translated as the "creature", carries the meaning of moving - that is, it means "the creature that is moving"; and computers are not moving." Secondly, the phrase which RK translates as "AT THE RIGHT TIME," is "Wa itha waqa a alejhimul qawlu" in Arabic, which actually means "AND WHEN THE WORD IS FULFILLED AGAINST THEM." Ibid.

Significantly, a parallel phrase "wa waqa a alejhimul qawlu/And the Word will be fulfilled against them" appears in Quran 27:85:

"And the Word will be fulfilled against them (wa waqa al qawlu alejhim) and they will be unable to speak (in plea)." 27/85. Ibid.

RK translates the SAME ARABIC PHRASE far differently in Quran 27:85 than in 27:82:

KHALIFA: THEY WILL INCUR THE REQUITAL FOR THEIR WICKEDNESS; they will say nothing.

To get a sense of how egregiously RK mistranslated Quran 27:82-85, compare RK’s translation against three others:

SHAKIR: AND WHEN THE WORD SHALL COME TO PASS AGAINST THEM, We shall bring forth for them a creature from the earth that shall wound them, because people did not believe in Our communications. 

KHALIFA: AT THE RIGHT TIME, we will produce for them a creature, made of earthly materials, declaring that the people are not certain about our revelations.

YUSUFALI: One day We shall gather together from every people a troop of those who reject our Signs, and they shall be kept in ranks,- 

PICKTHAL: And (remind them of) the Day when We shall gather out of every nation a host of those who denied Our revelations, and they will be set in array; 

SHAKIR: And on the day when We will gather from every nation a party from among those who rejected Our communications, then they shall be formed into groups. 

KHALIFA: The day will come when we summon from every community some of those who did not believe in our proofs, forcibly.

YUSUFALI: Until, when they come (before the Judgment-seat), (Allah) will say: "Did ye reject My Signs, though ye comprehended them not in knowledge, or what was it ye did?" 

PICKTHAL: Till, when they come (before their Lord), He will say: Did ye deny My revelations when ye could not compass them in knowledge, or what was it that ye did?  

SHAKIR: Until when they come, He will say: Did you reject My communications while you had no comprehensive knowledge of them? Or what was it that you did? 

KHALIFA: When they arrive, He will say, "You have rejected My revelations, before acquiring knowledge about them. Is this not what you did?"

YUSUFALI: AND THE WORD WILL BE FULFILLED AGAINST THEM, because of their wrong-doing, and they will be unable to speak (in plea). 

PICKTHAL: AND THE WORD WILL BE FULFILLED CONCERNING THEM because they have done wrong, and they will not speak. 

SHAKIR: AND THE WORD SHALL COME TO PASS AGAINST THEM because they were unjust, so they shall not speak. 

KHALIFA: THEY WILL INCUR THE REQUITAL FOR THEIR WICKEDNESS; they will say nothing.

Read in context, there can be no doubt that in, Quran 27:82-85, Allah is describing events that will take place ON OR NEAR JUDGMENT DAY.

"[T]he beast . . . will emerge at the end of time, when mankind has become corrupt and changed the true religion."

Tasfir Ibn Kathir, Vol. 7, p. 358 (Darusallam Publishers, Riyadh, 2000).

In these verses, "Allah tells us about the Day of Resurrection when the wrongdoers who disbelieved in the signs and Messengers of Allah will be gathered before Allah, so that he will ask them about what they did in this world, rebuking, scolding, and belittling them." Id., at p. 362.

The import of RK’s MISTRANSLATIONS of Quran 27:82 and 85 is now obvious:

RK claimed "the world will end in AD 2280" http://www.submission.org/suras/sura15.htm  

However, computers were invented in the 20th century - over 300 years before RK’s "end time (see also Luke 2:52: GOD forgave Jesus)." To validate his argument that THE INVENTION OF COMPUTERS is the "creature" of Quran 27:82, RK had to push the date the "creature" emerges back to the 20th century - rather than leaving it for the "end" times as the Arabic clearly  indicates!

RK’s claim that the "creature" of Quran 27:82 is the "computer" is but another one of many false ahadith peddled by Rashad Khalifa.
