If Jesus was Muslim as Muslims  (Isaiah 56:5: Muslim is the future believers' name.  Sons and daughters titles will be "no more") claim, then why did he convert water into wine in one case, and said that wine is his blood in another since wine and alcohol are prohibited in Islam?

Here is a good answer from sister Jacqueline S. Waheed; may Allah Almighty always be pleased with her:

The fact that Jesus was Muslim is hardly based on Muslims  (Isaiah 56:5: Muslim is the future believers' name.  Sons and daughters titles will be "no more")' claim, Bible itself confirms it. [See e.g. Verses John 13:10, Matthew 26:39, Mark 3:31-35, Matthew 7:21-23] to name few. Beside that from Adam to Muhammed [saw] the religion of Allaah [God] has always been Islaam with the same message. However, in order to answer this question we must first explore the meaning of the word "Wine." Looking at the dictionary one can learn that the word "Wine" has following meanings.

wine (wn) n. 1.a. A beverage made of the fermented juice of any of various kinds of grapes, usually containing from 10 to 15 percent alcohol by volume. b. A beverage made of the fermented juice of any of various other fruits or plants. 2. Something that intoxicates or exhilarates. 3. Color. The color of red wine. --wine v. wined, wining, wines. --tr. 1. To provide or entertain with wine. --intr. To drink wine. [Middle English, from Old English wn, from Latin vnum.]

Let us keep this fact in mind that the word [wine] does not automatically carry connotations [in dictionary] of an intoxicant drink, it is more obviously used for juice. Looking into the issue further we see that word [alcohol] means:

alcohol (l"k.-hl", -hl") n. 1. Abbr. al., alc. A colorless, volatile, flammable liquid, C2H5OH, synthesized or obtained by fermentation of sugars and starches and widely used, either pure or denatured, as a solvent and in drugs, cleaning solutions, explosives, and intoxicating beverages. Also called ethanol, ethyl alcohol, grain alcohol. 2. Intoxicating liquor containing alcohol. 3. Any of a series of hydroxyl compounds, the simplest of which are derived from saturated hydrocarbons, have the general formula CnH2n+1OH, and include ethanol and methanol. [Medieval Latin, fine metallic powder, especially of antimony, from Arabic al-kul : al, the + kul, powder of antimony.]

However, we learn by virtue of [word history] that:

WORD HISTORY: The al- in alcohol may alert some readers to the fact that this is a word of Arabic descent, as is the case with algebra and alkali-al being the Arabic definite article corresponding to the in English. The origin of -cohol is less obvious, however. Its Arabic ancestor was kul, a fine powder most often made from antimony and used by women to darken their eyelids; in fact, kul has given us the word kohl for such a preparation. Muslim Scientists and Chemists came to use al-kul to mean "any fine powder produced in a number of ways, including the process of heating a substance to a gaseous state and then recooling it." The English word alcohol, derived through Medieval Latin from Arabic, is first recorded in 1543 in this sense. Muslim Scientists and Chemists also used al-kul to refer to other substances such as essences that were obtained by distillation, a sense first found for English alcohol in 1672. One of these distilled essences, known as "alcohol of wine," is the constituent of fermented liquors that causes intoxication. This essence took over the term alcohol for itself, whence it has come to refer to the liquor that contains this essence as well as to a class of chemical compounds such as methanol.

Since Bible does not prove and/or indicates that alleged wine was intoxicant, neither Noble Qur'aan supports biblical account. It is therefore safe to say that it is inconceivable for a great Prophet Jesus to act in such contradictory fashion to turn water into intoxicant [wine] as we know it by proven record that intoxicants [alcoholic beverages] are responsible of social and moral bankruptcy of western world [in form of drunk driving accidental deaths, rape, incest, murder, suicide and more].

In Noble Qur'aan [Allaah "swt'] says:

Noble Qur'aan 2:219 "They ask you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning alcoholic drink and gambling.[] Say: "In them is a great sin, and (some) benefit for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit." And they ask you what they ought to spend. Say: "That which is beyond your needs." Thus Allh makes clear to you His Laws in order that you may give thought."

Noble Qur'aan 5:90 "O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), gambling, AlAnsb[], and AlAzlm (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaitn's (Satan) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful."

The above two verses from Noble Qur'aan are self-explanatory and are evident that Islaam is NOT against and/or has forbidden anything by name it has certainly permitted or forbid an act and/or product [whether natural or man made] by its characteristics. It is important to remind us that what Allaah has forbidden is what intoxicates, not a substance. We have several Hadiths, in addition to the Qur'anic orders, which make it clear that any drink that intoxicates is forbidden. The Prophet Muhammed [saw]explains that when taking only a large amount of a particular drink produces intoxication, then it is forbidden even to have a sip of it.

We cannot properly understand the wisdom behind a particular point of detail in Islaam unless we understand the nature of this system, its basic principles and its guarantees. Moreover, details of the Islaamic system should not be implemented in isolation to the rest of the system. We cannot simply take one legal provision or one principle of Islaam and try to implement it in a social setup, which is not Islaamic.

The following entries are from Quran Moral Code (100s of them):

50 See also entry #258 below about Allah Almighty's prohibition of evil addictions, such as video games, porn, gambling, alcohol, etc...

All intoxicants including alcohol and drugs, and Gambling, divination, and sorcery, and all abominations are evil.  The same Noble Word for avoiding them was also used for idols false talk or speech, lying and false testimony (فاجتنبوا الرجس من الاوثان واجتنبوا قول الزور).

Allah Almighty said: "O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan's handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper.  Satan's plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of God, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain? انما يريد الشيطان ان يوقع بينكم العداوة والبغضاء في الخمر والميسر ويصدكم عن ذكر الله وعن الصلاة فهل انتم منتهون   (The Noble Quran, 5:90-91)"

Eschew all abominations.  And will you not abstain from all abominations?  The abominations include all intoxicants, gambling and all harmful things.

Also, Gambling and alcohol are some of satan's tools to create enmity, hatred and disunity among the Believers, and to stop the Believers from remembering Allah Almighty and from Praying.  "Satan's plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of God, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain?" (5:91) انما يريد الشيطان ان يوقع بينكم العداوة والبغضاء في الخمر والميسر ويصدكم عن ذكر الله وعن الصلاة فهل انتم منتهون

Allah Almighty calls unto all Muslims TO STOP all gambling and all intoxicants consumption: "eschew such (abomination)" and "will ye not then abstain?" فهل انتم منتهون.

2:219, 5:90-91, 22:30

258 Addictions:

Anything and everything which you do that becomes compulsive to you, dominates you, and becomes addictive to a point where you become glued to it and can't get yourself out of it is considered an addiction.  Allah Almighty defines it beautifully in the Glorious Quran as things satan uses to ويصدكم عن ذكر الله وعن الصلاة  "hinder you يصدكم from the remembrance of God, and from prayer" (The Noble Quran, 5:90-91).

So if you are unable to maintain remembrance of Allah Almighty and you are unable to perform your daily prayers due to evil compulsive and excessive things that you may have subjected and surrendered yourself to such as video games, porn, gambling, alcohol, etc..., then you suffer addiction.

To be addicted to anything evil or negative is forbidden in the Glorious Quran, and one must fight it off with all of his will, passion and power.  You must have a strong will:

You must "muster the means" (4:98) to fight your weaknesses.

"eschew such (abomination)" (5:90) and "will ye not then abstain?" (5:91) فهل انتم منتهون.

[004:097] The angels, when they took the souls of those who had been unjust to their own weal, demanded, "What hath been your state?" They said, "We were the weak ones of the earth." They replied, "Was not God's earth broad enough for you to flee away in?" These! their home shall be Hell, and evil the passage to it -

[003:139] Do not weaken and do not grieve. You will come up on top, if you are the believers.

[004:075] What is wrong with you? Why would you not fight for the sake of Allah on behalf of the weak and oppressed men, women and children? Those who pray (to Allah), Our Lord! Rescue us from this town; its residents are cruel. Raise, by Your grace, an ally for us. Grant us by Your will a helper!

You must not succumb, retire or surrender yourself to any evil.  Also, always fight the good fight; fight for the oppressed and fight injustice so no more tumult remains.  Yes, you can't always be victorious, but you must not ever given in or give up to evil, and you must always keep the good fight for Allah Almighty's sake in you at all time, and always put your trust and faith in Allah Almighty.  This is what Islam calls doing Jihad against yourself, which includes defeating and overcoming your weaknesses and temptations.  Do not allow yourself to ever become and addict.  The following is from Entry #50 above:

Allah Almighty's Forgiveness and Mercy are always there for the weak.  But you must be genuine and not false:

[004:098] Except for the men, women and children who are weak and oppressed! They are unable to muster the means (to migrate), and (therefore) find no way out.

[004:099] Perhaps, Allah will grant forgiveness to those (weak) ones. Allah is oft-Pardoning, and the most Forgiving!

You must "muster the means" (4:98) to fight your weaknesses.  Do not be false and easy target and prey for satan.  You can also fight addiction with fasting and praying to Allah Almighty, because they both strengthen your self-restraint:

[002:183] O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint,-

[029:045] Recite what has been revealed to thee of the Book; and be steadfast in prayer; verily, prayer forbids sin and wrong; and surely the mention of God is greater; for God knows what ye do.

Always stay away from temptations that lead to evil and addiction رجس من عمل الشيطان فاجتنبوه:

[005:090] O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan's handwork: eschew such (abomination)  رجس من عمل الشيطان فاجتنبوه, that ye may prosper.
