Responding to Answering-Islam’s debate Review

A member of the Answering-Islam team has written a debate review between me and Sam Shamoun. I will only respond to the ending, since I do not want to make this a long rebuttal sort of article, since the member also tries to refute some of my points I brought up in the debate in response to Shamoun’s points.

 

The author writes this at the end:

The author of the article is wrong in showing that I only brought 4 arguments up throughout my debate. The numbers beside the points are his own personal scores he gave to each point we brought up.

 

The author claims my only arguments were that Jesus never said he is God, that Jesus is not all-knowing, and that the believing masses did not believe he is God, and that the prophet Daniel was also worshipped.

 

Just say those were the only arguments I brought up, the first 3 alone are enough to win me the entire debate! I proved Jesus never said he is God, I proved Jesus is not ALL-KNOWING, a must for God, and I proved his people who believed in him did not believe he was God neither, that alone is sufficient to win me the debate.

 

However so, those were not the only arguments I raised. Other arguments I raised were:

 

1-Jesus said the Father is greater than him, and I went on to show how Jesus was indeed inferior to the Father.

 

2-I showed that Jesus was given ALL things from the Father, from miracle to doctrine, obviously not an attribute of a divine creature.

 

3-I showed that Jesus raised the dead by praying to the Father, and that it was the Father who was really raising them, not Jesus, and Jesus always thanked the Father for doing it. This proved that it was never Jesus raising the dead but the Father.

 

4-I challenged Shamoun to show me a single miracle Jesus did on his own, this was never shown, and never will be, since Jesus got and did everything thanks to the Father

 

5-I showed that the Jews misunderstood Jesus statements, therefore this leaves the possibility that they also misunderstood other statements of his and mistaking them as him claiming to be God.

 

6-I showed that Jesus did not believe he is God, when he said tell man he is the Messiah, not tell no man he is God, and Messiah does not mean God.

 

7-I showed that his disciples did not believe he is God, when Jesus asked him who do they believe he is, they said they believe he is the son of God, NOT God, I then showed the term son of God never meant God to the Jews and that Jews were also called Gods!

 

So therefore I had 11 solid arguments. In fact only 3 arguments of the ones I used are enough to prove Jesus is not God, which is that he did not claim to be God, he was given everything, therefore his miracles are not unique, and he was not all knowing.

 

In fact some of my very arguments cancel out Shamoun’s ones, for instance in the list of arguments for Shamoun, the member writes:

This argument is cancelled by argument 2 by me, which is:

 

2. Crowds' opinion

 

The believing crowds who believed in him did not believe he is God. So this cancels that out.

 

Another argument which gets canceled out is:

 

  3. Thomas' confession

 

This gets canceled out by argument 6 and 7 by me.

 

Also some of the arguments listed by the member prove nothing, for instance these arguments which are raised does not prove Jesus is God:

 

10. Jesus resurrects

 

And? How does that prove Jesus is God, it doesn’t prove anything!

 

Another argument which proves nothing is:

 

  6. John's Christology

 

And? Who cares about John’s interpretations, bring me Jesus’ words as I mostly did in the debate, if one listens to the debate, one will notice most of the material used to show Jesus is God is not from the lips of Jesus.

 

  7. Author of Hebrews' Christology

 

Who cares about Paul’s interpretation? I want words of Jesus.

 

11. Peter and "Author of Life" comment

 

And? Who cares about Peter and his comments, bring me Jesus’ comments.

 

So as we can see, arguments 6,7,10, and 11 don’t prove anything on Jesus being God. And as we also see, arguments 4, and 3 are canceled out by my arguments. So out of 14 of Shamoun’s arguments listed; only 8 of them are real points to prove Jesus is God.

 

So in reality, Shamoun raised 8 arguments, while I raised 11, 3 of which cancel his out.

 

With all that said, it is clear the debate victory was mine, my arguments were NOT refuted, I even kept on thanking Shamoun for affirming and agreeing with my arguments!
