I was asked the following question by one of my site's readers who happens to be an American convert to Islam.  This article is also a rebuttal to the "answering Islam" team's latest absurdity.  See the sections below.

I enjoy your site. I am always trying to learn more about my faith and Allah's words. I feel confused by the fact that as Muslims, we know Allah has sent His message via prophets, including Jesus (Luke 2:52: GOD forgave Jesus' sins and was "charitable" with him). We know the Bible was of divine origin, but terribly corrupted. Why, then do you speak of it so badly? The books were of Allah and meant for good and we use them as reference of history when facts can be corroborated by the Quran. Shouldn't we be more respectful of the books and just take it for the value it has knowing the source of its devaluation is from man? I may be wrong but I would like your opinion, inshallah.

 
Answer:

Allah Almighty Commanded all Muslims in the Glorious Quran:

"Invite (all) to the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: For thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.  (The Noble Quran, 16:125)"

So yes, we should be more respectful.  I fully agree with this point.

As to the Bible, the Bible is not and was never of the origins of the Words of Allah Almighty.  The Torah was sent to Moses, peace be upon him, and the Injil (Gospel, Glad Tidings, Good News) was sent to Jesus, peace be upon him, and not to the disciples, nor to deceivers who never even met Jesus in person such as Paul.

The reason why the "gospels" of the bible are named as such today is because they were named after the original Revelations that Jesus had.  So in other words, the real Gospel is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Everything else is a fabrication on the mouths of Jesus and his disciples.  There is no such thing, in Islam, called "gospel of Matthew", "gospel of John", etc...  Now whether or not there is actually a gospel out there with the name "The Gospel of Jesus", in the scriptures outside the bible, that is something I don't know, and certainly, even if it does, we still couldn't be sure that it too didn't get corrupt.  The original teachings are simply lost from this earth.  Only the Glorious Quran is the original Word of Allah Almighty.  Nothing else stands.  All of the other books contain corruptions and lies in them.  That is why Allah Almighty Said:

"We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly Guard it (from corruption).  (The Noble Quran, 15:9)"

"It is upon Us to collect and compile it (i.e., the Quran) and to promulgate it:  (The Noble Quran, 75:17)"

The Overwhelming Scientific Miracles in the Noble Quran!

2-  Why was the Injil named as such?

Injil in Greek means "glad tidings" or "good news", and it implies glad tidings from GOD Almighty.  I believe since the lands of Palestine were colonized, ruled and governed by the Romans, and many Greeks and Romans lived in the lands, then the Divine Revelations from Allah Almighty came down to all of the people in the land, who spoke:

1. Arabic.
2. Hebrew.
3. Greek.
4. Aramaic.
5. Perhaps Coptic dialect.
6. Other languages such as Persian, Turkish, Kurdish, etc....

Injil perhaps was chosen to name the Glorious Quran of the time (that was sent to Jesus) because the ruling government of the land was the Roman empire, and hence, the Greek word, Injil, was pithy enough to address the Glad Tidings to all of the people, and to encompass them all and to help them receive it.  We simply do not know the exact reason why the Greek word, Injil, was chosen, but this answer of mine seems to make a lot of logical sense.

Another thought is that perhaps Jesus Christ spoke several languages:

1. Hebrew
2. Aramaic
3. Arabic
4. Greek

and hence, he might've received his Gospel in different languages, and not just one language, depending on the territory that he was in.  This also makes a lot of logical sense, and it wouldn't surprise me that Jesus Christ spoke different languages by the Will of Allah Almighty.  And if this was so for Jesus, then it would've been perhaps most appropriate to name his Gospel "the Injil" especially that many of the Middle Eastern words are common among the languages of the Middle East.  So it is quite possible that Injil was one of those words that was adopted in most or all of the languages of the Middle East, since again, the Romans were the ruling authority and government of the lands of Palestine.

3-  But Injil is not an Arabic word, why then is it in the Arabic Quran?

Some desperate anti-Islamics have raised this point in an attempt to "disprove" Islam.  The shallowness and desperation of those infidels is sometimes so boring that it makes you wanna yawn several times and fall asleep when reading their silly materials.  Believe me when I tell you, this point is among the top ones that the infidels use against Islam!  I therefore want to flush it down the toilet once and for all and put this nuisance-blasphemy to rest.  The following points are my response to this worthless argument:

1-  Yes, the Glorious Quran came in the language of Arabic:

2-  If the Quran of Jesus Christ was called "The Injil" during his time, because it was perhaps revealed in different languages, and was revealed for people of different languages and nationalities, and was named after a word that was part of the ruling government's language of the time, plus it was also perhaps adopted in many or all of the languages of the region, and if the Glorious Quran makes mention of the word, Injil, then how is that supposed to prove that the Glorious Quran is in contradiction with Itself?!

Do you see how ridiculous this shallow-minded and silly argument is?  Yet, we find it in the top anti-Islamic sites out there with lots of emphasis and propagation for it.  They are indeed as Allah Almighty described them in the Glorious Quran:

"Those whose efforts have been wasted in this life while they thought that they were acquiring good by their deeds!  (The Noble Quran, 18:104)"

Another argument that is made against Islam is that how come then Allah Almighty did not translate the word, Injil, in the Arabic Glorious Quran to mean "Glad Tidings" when He, the Almighty, made reference to It? 

  
Response:

Again, another shallow argument that holds no water.  The Divine Revelations that Jesus Christ, peace be upon him, received during his times were called "The Injil".  We have seen some of the reasons, above, of why the word might've been chosen to name the Glorious Quran of the time (the one that was sent to Jesus).  Arabic was not the only language of the region/lands, nor was it the only primary language.  The people of Palestine, as we've seen above, spoke several languages, and all of the people were ruled by the Romans.  Hence, calling the Glorious Quran that was sent to Jesus, "the Injil," would've been, again, most appropriate - at least to Allah Almighty, and that's all that really matters.

Now as to why Allah Almighty didn't translate the Greek word into Arabic when He, the Almighty, made references to the Divine Revelations in the Glorious Quran, the following are my responses:

1-  No one has the right to speak on behalf of Allah Almighty, the Sovereign GOD Almighty and LORD of the Universe.  We therefore should not dare to speculate and "analyze" what Allah Almighty should've Said.

2-  Allah Almighty in the Glorious Quran did Say that the Injil came to give Glad Tidings to the people:

All of the Divine Revelations that were sent down from Allah Almighty, whether through the Holy Spirit or through Angels, are Glad Tidings to all of the Believers ( Muslims>)).    And the followers of Jesus were also called " Muslims" in both the Glorious Quran and also in today's corrupt Bible in Luke 6:40:

"The disciple/student is not above his teacher: but every one when he is MUSHLAM shall be as his teacher. " (Luke 6:40)

3-  Allah Almighty did not Have to translate the Word into Arabic, in the current Glorious Quran, because if this is how the Divine Revelations that were sent to Jesus Christ were called, precisely and verbatim, then this is how Allah Almighty Decided to call them.  Raising objections about this does not disprove anything in Islam.

Do you want anything?). 2-  Arabic is far more documented, and much richer, than the nearly-extinct languages of Syriac and Aramaic. 3-  kal adam she'MUSHLAM means: kal = every.  In Arabic it is kul. adam = human. she'MUSHLAM = every adam who is totally a Muslim. 4-  yihyeh is the same as Arabic Yahya.  Yahya is derived from Haya (life).  Yahya means living.  It is also used for sycophantic chanting "long lives....".  So if you're totally a Muslim, then you'll be considered alive and living by GOD Almighty, even if you're not the most pious teacher (Rabbi).  Being a genuine Muslim is what GOD Almighty truly looks for.  The Glorious Quran also confirms this beautifully: 26:89 الا من اتى الله بقلب سليم [026:089] `Save him who comes to Allah with a sound heart بقلب سليم.'       Orphan Prophesies about future Arabia:    Jeremiah 51:33 [2]  Arabia has not yet met its threshold, and her time to meet her threshold (become blessed by GOD) shall come. Similarly, Isaiah 56:5 about the sons and daughters of GOD title will be replaced with a greater title is also another lone and orphan statement that points to Arabia and to Islam and Muslims.  Fast forward to the NT, we see Jesus himself and his mother Mary and all believers were called Muslims (Luke 6:40 in Aramaic), and Jesus also said that GOD's blessings and Covenant will be given to a different future ethnei ἔθνει (Matthew 21:43; ethnei is Greek for English Ethnic and Ethnicity; non-Jews):    How to convert to Islam? What is islam? Prophecy about Muslims will bow to GOD in the direction of His Holy Temple.  Notice the "I will" and "toward" prophecy:    Psalm 138:2 I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. (b)-  Jesus Christ was reinforced with the Holy Spirit:

Again, going back to Noble Verse 16:102 about the Holy Spirit brings down Glad Tidings from Allah Almighty, here is what Allah Almighty Said about the Holy Spirit and Its role in strengthening Jesus Christ:

"Then will God say: "O Jesus the son of Mary! Recount My favour to thee and to thy mother. Behold! I strengthened thee with the holy spirit, so that thou didst speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. Behold! I taught thee the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel and behold! thou makest out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by My leave, and thou breathest into it and it becometh a bird by My leave, and thou healest those born blind, and the lepers, by My leave. And behold! thou bringest forth the dead by My leave. And behold! I did restrain the Children of Israel from (violence to) thee when thou didst show them the clear Signs, and the unbelievers among them said: 'This is nothing but evident magic.'  (The Noble Quran, 5:110)"

So if Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him, was strengthened by the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit was upon him all the time, then this means that his Commands and/or Instructions that he gave to people might've been Divine Revelations from Allah Almighty.  And since he went to different territories and spoke to different people, then he most likely spoke in different languages, perhaps the following:

1. Arabic
2. Aramaic
3. Hebrew
4. Greek

What this means is that Prophet Jesus spoke his Injil in those languages, and perhaps more, to different people on different occasions.  And since he was speaking from the Holy Spirit, then he obviously was giving Glad Tidings as Allah Almighty Said in Noble Verse 16:102 above.  So certainly, the Injil is indeed a Book of Glad Tidings.

(c)-  The Glad Tidings about the coming of Prophet Ahmed:

Another reason why the Divine Revelations of Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him, might've been called the Injil (Glad Tidings), is because he gave the Glad Tidings for the coming of the next Prophet after him, Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. 

One of Prophet Muhammad's names is Ahmed.  Let us look at what Allah Almighty Said in the Glorious Quran regarding this:

"And (remember) when Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), said: "O Children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allah unto you confirming the Taurat ((Torah) which came) before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmed. But when he came to them with clear proofs, they said: "This is plain magic."  (The Noble Quran, 61:6)"

The man-made false lie that is called "christianity" is no more than a conjecture, as Allah Almighty called it in the Glorious Quran.  Islam is the Divine Truth of Allah Almighty, and the Glorious Quran is the True and Pure Living and Holy Word of Allah Almighty.  The bible is a false lie and its "gospels" are not Gospels, but lies and fabrications on the mouths of Jesus, peace be upon him, and his followers.
