Yusuf Ali: [002:272] It is not required of thee (O Apostle), to set them on the right path, but God sets on the right path whom He pleaseth. Whatever of good ye give benefits your own souls, and ye shall only do so seeking the "Face" of God. Whatever good ye give, shall be rendered back to you, and ye shall not Be dealt with unjustly.
Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors): [002:272] It is not upon you to grant them guidance. Allah guides whom He wants! Whatever good (money) you spend is only for your own good. If you spend to seek the pleasure of Allah, then whatever good (money) you spend would be returned to you to the fullest extent. You would not be wronged at all.
Transliteration: [002:272] Laysa AAalayka hudahum walakinna Allaha yahdee man yashao wama tunfiqoo min khayrin fali-anfusikum wama tunfiqoona illa ibtighaa wajhi Allahi wama tunfiqoo min khayrin yuwaffa ilaykum waantum la tuthlamoona

Sher Ali: [002:272] It is not thy responsibility to make them follow the right path; But ALLAH guides whosoever HE pleases. And whatever of wealth you spend, the benefit will of it will be for yourselves, for, you spend not but to seek the favour of ALLAH. And whatever of wealth you spend, it shall be paid back to you in full and you shall not be wronged.
Shakir: [002:272] To make them walk in the right way is not incumbent on you, but Allah guides aright whom He pleases; and whatever good thing you spend, it is to your own good; and you do not spend but to seek Allah's pleasure; and whatever good things you spend shall be paid back to you in full, and you shall not be wronged.
Pickthall: [002:272] The guiding of them is not thy duty (O Muhammad), but Allah guideth whom He will. And whatsoever good thing ye spend, it is for yourselves, when ye spend not save in search of Allah's Countenance; and whatsoever good thing ye spend, it will be repaid to you in full, and ye will not be wronged.
Sale: [002:272] The direction of them belongeth not unto thee; but God directeth whom he pleaseth. The good that ye shall give in alms shall redound unto your selves; and ye shall not give unless out of desire of seeing the face of God. And what good thing ye shall give in alms, it shall be repaid you, and ye shall not be treated unjustly;
Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan: [002:272] Not upon you (Muhammad SAW) is their guidance, but Allah guides whom He wills. And whatever you spend in good, it is for yourselves, when you spend not except seeking Allahs Countenance. And whatever you spend in good, it will be repaid to you in full, and you shall not be wronged.
Palmer: [002:272] Thou art not bound to guide them; but God guides whom He will; and whatever good ye expend it is for yourselves, and do not expend save craving for God's face. And what ye expend of good, it shall be repaid you, and ye shall not be wronged,-
Arberry: [002:272] Thou art not responsible for guiding them; but God guides whomsoever He will. And whatever good you expend is for yourselves, for then you are expending, being desirous only of God's Face; and whatever good you expend shall be repaid to you in full, and you will not be wronged,
Khalifa: (why is he here?) [002:272] You are not responsible for guiding anyone. GOD is the only one who guides whoever chooses (to be guided). Any charity you give is for your own good. Any charity you give shall be for the sake of GOD. Any charity you give will be repaid to you, without the least injustice.
Rodwell: [002:272] Their guidance is not thine affair, O Muhammad; but God guideth whom he pleaseth.
