Noble Verse(s) 2:253

Yusuf Ali:

[002:253]  Those apostles We endowed with gifts, some above others: To one of them God spoke; others He raised to degrees (of honour); to Jesus the son of Mary We gave clear (Signs), and strengthened him with the holy spirit. If God had so willed, succeeding generations would not have fought among each other, after clear (Signs) had come to them, but they (chose) to wrangle, some believing and others rejecting. If God had so willed, they would not have fought each other; but God Fulfilleth His plan.

Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors):

[002:253]  We have excelled (and preferred) some of the messengers over others. To some of them, Allah spoke (directly). He raised some to higher degrees (of honor) than others. We granted the manifest proofs to Jesus, son of Mary, and We strengthened him with the Holy Spirit. Had Allah wished, those who followed the prophets, would not have fought each other, (especially) since they had seen the clear proofs. But they differed (and splintered into groups): some of them believed, while there were some of them who disbelieved. Had Allah wished, they would not have fought (each other). But Allah does what He wants.

Sher Ali:

[002:253]  These messengers have WE exalted some of them above others; among them there are those to whom ALLAH spoke and some of them HE exalted in degrees of rank and WE gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs and strengthened him with the spirit of holiness. And if ALLAH had so willed, those that came after them would not have fought with one another after clear Signs had come to them; but they did disagree. Of them were some who believed, and of them were some who disbelieved. And if ALLAH had so willed, they would not have fought with one another; but ALLAH does what HE desires.

Shakir:

[002:253]  We have made some of these apostles to excel the others among them are they to whom Allah spoke, and some of them He exalted by (many degrees of) rank; and We gave clear miracles to Isa son of Marium, and strengthened him with the holy spirit. And if Allah had pleased, those after them would not have fought one with another after clear arguments had come to them, but they disagreed; so there were some of them who believed and others who denied; and if Allah had pleased they would not have fought one with another, but Allah brings about what He intends.

Pickthall:

[002:253]  Of those messengers, some of whom We have caused to excel others, and of whom there are some unto whom Allah spake, while some of them He exalted (above others) in degree; and We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty) and We supported him with the holy Spirit. And if Allah had so wiled it, those who followed after them would not have fought one with another after the clear proofs had come unto them. But they differed, some of them believing and some disbelieving. And if Allah had so willed it, they would not have fought one with another; but Allah doeth what He will.

Sale:

[002:253]  These are the Apostles; we have preferred some of them before others: Some of them hath God spoken unto, and hath exalted the degree of others of them. And we gave unto Jesus the son of Mary manifest signs, and strengthened him with the holy spirit. And if God had pleased, they who came after those Apostles, would not have contended among themselves, after manifest signs had been shewn unto them. But they fell to variance; therefore some of them believed, and some of them believed not; and if God had so pleased, they would not have contended among themselves, but God doth what he will.

Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan:

[002:253]  Those Messengers! We preferred some to others; to some of them Allah spoke (directly); others He raised to degrees (of honour); and to Iesa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), We gave clear proofs and evidences, and supported him with Rooh-ul-Qudus (Jibrael (Gabriel)). If Allah had willed, succeeding generations would not have fought against each other, after clear Verses of Allah had come to them, but they differed - some of them believed and others disbelieved. If Allah had willed, they would not have fought against one another, but Allah does what He likes.

Palmer:

[002:253]  These apostles have we preferred one of them above another. Of them is one to whom God spake; and we have raised some of them degrees; and we have given Jesus the son of Mary manifest signs, and strengthened him by the Holy Spirit. And, did God please, those who came after them would not have fought after there came to them manifest signs. But they did disagree, and of them are some who believe, and of them some who misbelieve, but, did God please, they would not have fought, for God does what He will.

Arberry:

[002:253]  And those Messengers, some We have preferred above others; some there are to whom God spoke, and some He raised in rank. And We gave Jesus son of Mary the clear signs, and confirmed him with the Holy Spirit. And had God willed, those who came after him would not have fought one against the other after the clear signs had come to them; but they fell into variance, and some of them believed, and some disbelieved; and had God willed they would not have fought one against the other; but God does whatsoever He desires.

Khalifa: (why is he here?)

[002:253]  These messengers; we blessed some of them more than others. For example, GOD spoke to one, and we raised some of them to higher ranks. And we gave Jesus, son of Mary, profound miracles and supported him with the Holy Spirit. Had GOD willed, their followers would not have fought with each other, after the clear proofs had come to them. Instead, they disputed among themselves; some of them believed, and some disbelieved. Had GOD willed, they would not have fought. Everything is in accordance with GOD's will.

Rodwell:

[002:253]  Some of the apostles we have endowed more highly than others: Those to whom God hath spoken, He hath raised to the loftiest grade, and to Jesus the Son of Mary we gave manifest signs, and we strengthened him with the Holy Spirit. And if God had pleased, they who came after them would not have wrangled, after the clear signs had reached them. But into disputes they fell: some of them believed, and some were infidels; yet if God had pleased, they would not have thus wrangled: but God doth what he will.

Noble Verse(s) 43:63-43:68

Yusuf Ali:

[043:063]  When Jesus came with Clear Signs, he said: "Now have I come to you with Wisdom, and in order to make clear to you some of the (points) on which ye dispute: therefore fear God and obey me.

[043:064]  "For God, He is my Lord and your Lord: so worship ye Him: this is a Straight Way."

[043:065]  But sects from among themselves fell into disagreement: then woe to the wrong-doers, from the Penalty of a Grievous Day!

[043:066]  Do they only wait for the Hour - that it should come on them all of a sudden, while they perceive not?

[043:067]  Friends on that day will be foes, one to another,- except the Righteous.

[043:068]  My devotees! no fear shall be on you that Day, nor shall ye grieve,-

Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors):

[043:063]  When Jesus brought the clear proofs (from Allah), he said, “I have come to you with wisdom (the prophethood); so I may sift and settle some of the issues about which you have discord and disagreements (amongst you). So fear Allah and follow me.”

[043:064]  “Indeed! Allah is my Lord; and He is your Lord, too! So worship Him (exclusively). That is the straight path!”

[043:065]  Yet, the sects (of his followers) continued to defy and bicker among themselves. So misery and a painful punishment on the day (of Judgment) is for those who do evil.

[043:066]  Are they waiting for the hour (of Judgment) to creep up on them suddenly, when they least expect it?

[043:067]  Except the righteous ones, all friends on that day would become each other’s enemies.

[043:068]  (Allah will say) “Oh my servants! Today you need not fear; and you need not grieve!”

Transliteration:

Arabic (Read from right to left.  Also, all png image files: [1] [2]).  Quran Moral Code (100s of them)]):

Sher Ali:

[043:063]  And when Jesus came with clear proofs, he said, `Truly, I have come to you with wisdom, and to make clear to you some of that about which you differ. So fear ALLAH and obey me.

[043:064]  `Verily, ALLAH - HE is my Lord and your Lord. So worship HIM. This is the right path.'

[043:065]  But the parties differed among themselves. So woe to the wrongdoers because of the punishment of a painful day !

[043:066]  They wait not but for the Hour to come suddenly upon them, while they perceive it not.

[043:067]  Friends on that day will be foes to one another, except the righteous;

[043:068]  To them ALLAH will say, `O MY servants, there is no fear for you this day, nor shall you grieve.

Shakir:

[043:063]  And when Isa came with clear arguments he said: I have come to you indeed with wisdom, and that I may make clear to you part of what you differ in; so be careful of (your duty to) Allah and obey me:

[043:064]  Surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord, therefore serve Him; this is the right path:

[043:065]  But parties from among them differed, so woe to those who were unjust because of the chastisement of a painful day.

[043:066]  Do they wait for aught but the hour, that it should come ! upon them all of a sudden while they do not perceive?

[043:067]  The friends shall on that day be enemies one to another, except those who guard (against evil).

[043:068]  O My servants! there is no fear for you this day, nor shall you grieve.

Pickthall:

[043:063]  When Jesus came with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), he said: I have come unto you with wisdom, and to make plain some of that concerning which ye differ. So keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.

[043:064]  Lo! Allah, He is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him. This is a right path.

[043:065]  But the factions among them differed. Then woe unto those who do wrong from the doom of a painful day.

[043:066]  Await they aught save the Hour, that it shall come upon them suddenly, when they know not ?

[043:067]  Friends on that day will be foes one to another, save those who kept their duty (to Allah).

[043:068]  O My slaves! For you there is no fear this day, nor is it ye who grieve;

Sale:

[043:063]  And when Jesus came with evident miracles, he said, now am I come unto you with wisdom; and to explain unto you part of those things concerning which ye disagree: Wherefore fear God, and obey me.

[043:064]  Verily God is my Lord, and your Lord; wherefore worship Him: This is the right way.

[043:065]  And the confederated sects among them fell to variance: But woe unto those who have acted unjustly, because of the punishment of a grievous day.

[043:066]  Do the unbelievers wait for any other than the hour of judgement; that it may come upon them suddenly, while they foresee it not?

[043:067]  The intimate friends, on that day, shall be enemies unto one another; except the pious.

[043:068]  O my servants, there shall no fear come on you this day, neither shall ye be grieved;

Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan:

[043:063]  And when Iesa (Jesus) came with (Our) clear Proofs, he said: "I have come to you with Al-Hikmah (Prophethood), and in order to make clear to you some of the (points) in which you differ, therefore fear Allah and obey me,

[043:064]  "Verily, Allah! He is my Lord (God) and your Lord (God). So worship Him (Alone). This is the (only) Straight Path (i.e. Allahs religion of true Islamic Monotheism)."

[043:065]  But the sects from among themselves differed. So woe to those who do wrong (by ascribing things to Iesa (Jesus) that are not true) from the torment of a painful Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)!

[043:066]  Do they only wait for the Hour that it shall come upon them suddenly, while they perceive not?

[043:067]  Friends on that Day will be foes one to another except Al-Muttaqoon (pious - see V.:).

[043:068]  (It will be said to the true believers of Islamic Monotheism): My worshippers! No fear shall be on you this Day, nor shall you grieve,

Palmer:

[043:063]  And when Jesus came with manifest signs he said, 'I am come to you with wisdom, and I will explain to you something of that whereon ye did dispute, then fear God, obey me;

[043:064]  verily, God, He is my Lord and your Lord, serve Him then, this is the right way.'

[043:065]  But the confederates disputed amongst themselves; and woe to those who are unjust from the torment of a grievous day!

[043:066]  Do they expect aught but that the Hour will come upon them suddenly while they do not perceive?

[043:067]  Friends on that day shall be foes to each other, save those who fear.

[043:068]  O my servants! there is no fear for you on that day; nor shall ye be grieved

Arberry:

[043:063]  And when Jesus came with the clear signs he said, 'I have come to you with wisdom, and that I may make clear to you some of that whereon you are at variance; so fear you God and obey you me.

[043:064]  Assuredly God is my Lord and your Lord; therefore serve Him; this is a straight path.'

[043:065]  But the parties among them fell into variance; so woe unto those who did evil, because of the chastisement of a painful day.

[043:066]  Are they looking for aught but the Hour, that it shall come upon them suddenly, when they are not aware?

[043:067]  Friends on that day shall be foes to one another, but the god-fearing.

[043:068]  'O My servants, today no fear is on you, neither do you sorrow' --

Khalifa: (why is he here?)

[043:063]  When Jesus went with the proofs, he said, "I bring to you wisdom, and to clarify some of the matters in which you dispute. You shall reverence GOD and obey me.

[043:064]  "GOD is my Lord and your Lord, you shall worship Him alone. This is the right path."

[043:065]  The opponents disputed among themselves. Woe to those who transgress from the retribution of a painful day.

[043:066]  Are they waiting for the Hour (Day of Judgment) to come to them suddenly when they least expect it?

[043:067]  The close friends on that day will become enemies of one another, except for the righteous.

[043:068]  O My servants, you will have no fear on that day, nor will you grieve.

Rodwell:

[043:063]  And when Jesus came with manifest proofs, he said, "Now am I come to you with wisdom; and a part of those things about which ye are at variance I will clear up to you; fear ye God therefore and obey me.

[043:064]  Verily, God is my Lord and your Lord; wherefore worship ye him: this is a right way."

[043:065]  But the different parties fell into disputes among themselves; but woe to those who thus transgressed, because of the punishment of an afflictive day!

[043:066]  For what wait they but for the hour "to come suddenly on them, while they expect it not?"

[043:067]  Friends on that day shall become foes to one another, except the God-fearing: -

[043:068]  "O my servants! on this day shall no fear come upon you, neither shall ye be put to grief,
