Did Meccans oppress Muslims?

A non Muslim said to me that Meccans were good they do not oppress Muslims at the time of prophet
 so please tell me how should I respond to him

Wa Alaikum As'salam,

The Arabs used to bury their baby daughters alive.  They also were at tribal wars with each other.  Islam came and ended all of oppression in Arabia.  The Prophet was also from the strongest pagan tribe; Hashim.  At first, they couldn't dare to mess with him because of his tribe.  They later began to slaughter the Prophet's followers from Bani Yasir and others.  They also tried to kill the Prophet in his bed, but Allah Almighty blinded them and made the Prophet be able to migrate to Medina, and blinded them again when they chased after him in the desert.  They came upon the cave that he was in and were blinded again to see him.  Meanwhile, his companion, Abu Bakr, was shivering from fear.  But Allah Almighty saved the Prophet and his companion:

[009:040]  If you fail to help the prophet, (Allah will)! Allah had certainly helped him when the unbelievers had driven him out (of the town). He was (at that time) one of the two. The two of them were (hiding) in a cave when he said to his companion, “Do not worry, Allah is with us.” So Allah, by His grace, caused the (reassuring) peace and serenity to descend upon him. (Allah) strengthened him with forces you could not see. He brought the words (and slogans) of the unbelievers down to the lowest level, while the word of Allah is (always) Supreme. Allah is the Almighty, and the Wisest.


The infidels' opinions are worthless like their worthless pagan religions from eastern pagan religions and the polytheist trinitarian pagans'.  All of them are pagans.  Allah Almighty's Divine Truth was made to spread in these lands, and It did, and that's all that matters.  The disbelievers can go pound sand if they don't like it, or get sodomized in their pagan churches and temples like they normally do to children over there.  Whether the doomed-to-Hell infidels like it or not is all worthless.

Early Muslims faced a lot of persecution and oppression due to them rejecting their former polytheistic faith and accepting Islam. As such, the early Muslims for years gave the message of Islam secretively to those who were near them for fear of them being being found out and persecuted.
