Question

Salam,

I have a question with regards a specific verse which a non muslim showed me online to prove some error  in the quran, and i never heard this claim before, so i hope you can help.

Quran 3:144, Mohsin Khan: Muhammad (SAW) is no more than a Messenger, and indeed (many) Messengers have passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will you then turn back on your heels (as disbelievers)? And he who turns back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allah, and Allah will give reward to those who are grateful.

But his claim summarized: he says that this verse shows allah swt was unsure, from which we can conclude he is not an all knowing being which would then contradict parts of the quran which say he is. The part in question is " if he dies or is killed ) if allah is an all knowing being why does he have to say "or" he knows what will happen, so why didnt he says, if he is killed, or if he dies, by making this or shows that allah didnt know what would happen to muhammad therefor to stay in the clear he said "dies or killed" he then concludes from this that Muhammad saws himself wrote this and sinde he didnt know the future nor what would happen to him he said die or get killed, he finished off by saying, it is not appropriate for an all knowing entity to say or, as he knows what is going to happen he could have chosen 1

As i have never seen this claim made before, i was not able to find any answers regarding this online, therefor i came here and i hope you can help me refute he lies against our religion

Wa Alaikum As'salam,

Allah Almighty is always sure and is never in doubt.  The proof for this is the fact that He, the Almighty:

1-  Made Divine Promises in the Quran that came true, such as the opening of Mecca, the victory of the Romans in the upcoming battle, etc...

2-  Declared that He Knows all of the Unseen and is in full control of everything and our destinies.


Yet, Allah Almighty still Gives us Free Will.  I already explained this before.  He, the Almighty, Knows exactly what we would be, and what we would've been have we chosen other decisions in the past, and what we will be and what decisions we will take in the future.

Allah Almighty's Warning to the Muslims that they will go stray is not that He is in doubt at all.

the verse is giving a situation where the prophet was given the same death similar to past messengers either being killed or died. Hence without the presence of a prophet, would one turn back to disbelieve

Allah is apparently responding to those who claim that the prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was killed by poison, so even if their claim was true, then it wouldn't matter because he is a human in the end, so even if the prophet get killed, then it wouldn't matter because he is going to die eventually.

Well, it's plausible that the verse is probably a response to this claim, or maybe not. I'm not awfully sure, or maybe the verse is saying that even the prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) can get killed.
