Pee under the bed
« on: July 10, 2017, 10:15:12 AM »
Assalamu alaikom,

I was having an online diacussion with someone, and he tried to prove that muhammad had bad hygienic rules, and pointed out 2 things. The well with dead dogs ( which i already refuted him on ) and that muhammad saws used to leave urine under his bed. See the following ahadith:

Abu dawud 24, The Prophet (ﷺ) had a wooden vessel under his bed in which he would urinate at night.

Sunan nisai : Vol. 1, Book 1, Hadith 32, "The Prophet (ﷺ) had a vessel made from a date tree in which he would urinate and place it under the bed."

Now my question is, why would muhammad keep a vessel or
Bottle of urine under his bed? Is this not dirty, smelly/stinky and unhygoienic.
Please answer inshaAllah

Jazakallah khair

This is a unauthentic hadith.

How do you mean unauthentic? The one in abu dawud is hasan-sahih an the one in nisai is hasan

As'salamu Alaikum dear brothers,

The Hadith could simply mean that when the Prophet, peace be upon him, was physically too weak to get up in his last years, he would use this container as a tool to relieve himself.  And perhaps one of his wives would clean it after it's been used.

The problem with many Hadiths is that they lack context.  And they're unnecessary anyway.  I mean what real purpose this story serves?

I hope this helps, insha'Allah.

Take care,
Osama Abdallah

Unhyegenic?

Dirty?

Really...?

What about the babies moving around with diapers soaked with urine and feaces?
What about the elderly with diapers, when they are bed ridden?
What about the urine bag attached or the stool pouch attached with patients?
What about mensturating women moving around?

Do these islamophobes really avoid all of these people?

No.

Rather they would sympathize with many of them.Children, they are still so cute.

Now the case of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w. :

1.Peeing under the bed is totally a wrong impression. It means going under the bed for urination which was not the case.

2.It was urinating in a container and keeping it under the bed, which,if covered is more hygienic than moving around with dirt/filthy material continuously attached to a person.

See the cases mentioned above where the filth is just together with the person.

3.There is only a single narrator of these two ahadees, who was not the resident of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w.'s house. Umaymah bint Ruqayyah r.a.

4.Any hadees which is Hasan or hasan sahih does NOT mean that it is Sahih,so the hadees can be used for liniency towards bed ridden patients etc but it can not used to judge the whole character of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w or his habits.
