Al hijr name

Assalam alikum I was just wondering was mada'in al saleh called al hijr before the quran or after could it be just mean people who live in rocky area so could of thamud been in yemon then there because there is a place called thamud

What is mada'in al saleh (cities of saleh)?  Please provide references from the Glorious Quran and outside the Quran.  I am not sure.

What I mean the land is called madian al saleh now but people call it al hijr from the quran sp I was just wondering did people call this place al before the quran or after the quran does al hijr have to be a specific place of can it be a region of a area like hijaz or can al hijr be any where with a rocky area like yemon and such

there are citations from book in Wiki that the place was called hegra in the past.

The Hedjaz region was integrated into the Roman province of Arabia in 106 AD. A monumental Roman epigraph of 175-177 AD was recently discovered at al-Hijr (then called "Hegra" and now Mada'in Saleh).[5]

And the dwellers in Al-Hijr denied (Our) messengers. (15:80)

Al Hijr is referring to a vast rocky land. Say the people of Al-HIjr were around 20,000 there should be at least are at least 5,000 households destroyed for their rejection of their messenger.

So could al hijr be in yemon in stead of madion al saleh hegra because there is a place called thamud in yemon and are you saying thamud houses are still showing because those houses in mada'in al saleh were built by the nabtions not thamud jazzakkallah

Also could petra as well as thamud in yemon or any place with a rocky area in saudia Arabia yemon oman etc be called al hijr

does yemon or oman has traces of dwellings carved from rocks. if not, the thamuds and prophet Saleh a.s. were never there.
Also, any dwellings traces of thamud in land of al Hijr should be in ruins due to the destruction.

So your saying if there are houses of thamud in al hirj they were fallen down by destruction so all what would be there would a few large bricks and broken pillars of there houses in a advance state of Decay is that what you are saying and maybe they were destroyed by now because we can't see any traces of thamud any more apart from maybe a well also they could of built over other area like al ula

Also just because we can't see any traces of thamud in yemon or oman doesn't mean they were not there because we can't see any traces of thamud now of there houses in al hirj but yemon and oman is just as a rocky area ad al hijr there mean mada'in saleh

The tomb carvings doesnt show any sign of its ceiling collapse nor does it look in ruin. It is of a different generation.
