I was in your place. People often get mixed up between Darwinism and Evolution.
To say that humans evolve over time is no problem at all.
However, the notion of a fish turning into an amphibian to a monkey-ape then human is
not what evolution is about. That's Darwinism. It is VERY easy to get lost in translation.
In terms of Islam, there's no problem saying that humans evolved over time unless it is with the exception of Adam.
(as for the science books, at one point they all stated that the sun doesn't orbit).
So to make the claim that Islam rejects Evolution is not really accurate, it rejects Darwinism. Certain sheikh's who say otherwise clearly cannot distinguish between the two. According to Gould, evolution is not a straight chain but like a branch of common ancestors.
