Question for Muslims----
If Psalm 91 is intended to mean Jesus would be saved from death, why is it a historical fact that during a Jewish funeral in the cemetery while the coffin is being borne to the grave, it is customary to halt at least three times and recite Psalm 91 while the DEAD person is being lowered into the grave??

Was Jesus even buried in a coffin according to the New Testament?  Jesus was placed on the floor in a tomb (a cave-like structure) and received medical treatment, and got up and left after he healed.  And he was still in pain and told Mary Magdalene "touch me not!" because he was still in pain.  Please visit:

And as to the Jewish custom, this is the first time I hear about this.  But even if it were true, I am not sure what is the questioner here checkmating.  And Jews weren't even consistent with their customs.  Their Talmud has different laws and traditions and Jews vary in following them.

Read the link about Psalm 91 above.  It's talking about the Servant being saved from the death by having GOD Almighty send down the Angels to lift him up and save him from death and harm.  Jews can use this on their dead all they want, but it doesn't mean that their tradition and interpretation is valid.  If anything, it demonstrates that they don't have their Scriptures fully understood, which raises the next question about their ignorance (or deliberate rejection) of the Arabian Prophet to come according to their Scriptures:

A Jew can not ignore the AMPLE PASSAGES that talk about Arabia and its coming Prophet in their Scriptures.

Yeah bro that's what I meant. Pslam 91 doesn't speak about afterlife or death rather it speaks of 'Saving'. SO it is pointless to recite it in funerals. Thanks still :D

Now this is called pure Islamic Jesus! He was always obedient to God and God never left him alone, He saved him, took him up to Himself, like He promises in Psalm 91, and Allah never breaks His promise. SubhanAllah!

Wait, I just missed something here! Read the verses carefully again!

'When you shall lift up the son of man' means 'When you shall lift him up upon the cross', as explained by bible scholars.

So when you shall lift him up on the cross, you will know that he truly is the messiah, and God is with him. But how will u understand this? Seeing him crying "My God My God why have you forsaken me?" when God/Father was supposed to be with him, not leaving him alone?
 
No! You will know when God will lift him up to himself!! "Wama Qataluhu wama swalabuhu"... "They neither killed him nor crucified him..... but Allah lifted him up towards Himself"!

As'salamu Alaikum dear brother Tahmeed,

Your interpretation is valid dear brother especially when seen in the light of Psalm 91, which was referenced by Jesus and Satan in the New Testament to be about Jesus.  Yes indeed, GOD Almighty will be with Jesus and will not leave him.  Jesus in the NT begged GOD Almighty many times to save him from crucifixion.  So it is only normal for GOD Almighty to save His Beloved Servant, Jesus, peace be upon him, from pain and suffering.
