Sahih Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 87, Number 111

Narrated Aisha:
the Prophet became so sad as we have heard that he intended several times to throw himself from the tops of high mountains and every time he went up the top of a mountain in order to throw himself down, Gabriel would appear before him and say, “O Muhammad! You are indeed Allah’s Apostle in truth” whereupon his heart would become quiet and he would calm down and would return home. And whenever the period of the coming of the inspiration used to become long, he would do as before, but when he used to reach the top of a mountain, Gabriel would appear before him and say to him what he had said before.



This is all about “as we heard that…”.

It is not about anything which Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w told about himself.

a person with such tendency keeps on trying.There is no single report that Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w. was rescued from such an attempt. (naoozubillah)

Prophet muhammad pbuh was saddened because he expected to have revelations from Allah swt consistantly when he did not dye to his great love for Allah swt he would go to the tops of Hera mountain, eventually Allah swt revealed to him this:

"By the forenoon, and by the night as it spreads its wings over the world in peace, your Lord has not forsaken you; nor is He displeased with you. Surely, the end shall be better for you than the beginning. Your Lord will soon give you of His bounty and you will be well pleased. Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter? Did He not find you erring and guide you to the truth? Did He not find you in want and provide for you? Do not, therefore, oppress the orphan nor turn away whosoever seeks your help. And the bounty of your Lord, always proclaim."[Qur'an, 93:1-11]

Since muhammad (s.a.w) did have no knowledge of how Divine inpuration works in the beginning, he used to get worried that maybe Allah swt isn't happy with him. But then the Above verse was revealed which after that he realized there was nothing to worry about.

what I think is that sadness is something else and suicidal tendency is something totally different...

In order to claim that someone is suicidal, there must be some solid ground to support this.... just some hearsay does not make someone suicidal...

There is no such report from Prophet Muhammad s.a.w w or his companions that He was trying to do so .... nor from his wives who had ever seen Him attempting...

Tagging someone with a serious factor, typical of psychological disorders, needs solid basis, as I think so

Point#1. Those who hate rasool(s.a.w.) do not care for any real evidence. They try to make things sound professional and hope it effects us. Such PATHETIC attempts can only have effect on those who are dwindling in their faith(may allah swt make all muslims faith strong).

Point#2. Yes there is an enourmous difference between saddness and suicidal tendencies. Saddness is a common emotion that every human shares. Suicidal tendencies fall into the criteria of SEVERE DEPRESSION. But the claim isn't just suicidal tendencies but on top of that the attempts, which CLEARLY cannot be defined by just mere saddness.

Point#3. It is possible that the through time the understanding of that hadith might have changed, where since rophet muhammad pbuh went to the top, some people might have thought it might be a suicide attempt but clearly there is no real evidence to state this, most of these are just conjectures.

Last Point. Which may also be the most important point, in the quranic verse NOTE that there is NO MENTION of prophet muhammad pbuh trying any suicidal attempt, but rather mentioned only 2 factors: "your Lord has NOT FORSAKEN you, NOR is DISPLEASED with you."

Why is there no mention of any sort of the suicidal attempt which these mushrikeen claim?  I rest my case.


Also it seems these mushrikeen who like to attack prophet muhammad pbuh glorious character are head and heels in trying so hard to find something that can stick, lets just hope that they do not end up having SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, but rather come to islam in love for allah swt and muhammad pbuh.  =)

In the bible there are many israelite prophets (Moses, Job, Jonah, Elijah) that wish to commit suicide due to the burden of carrying duties as a prophet. So they voice out loud a statement to Yhwh to simply end their life. "Now let me die"

But in the case of the story of Muhammad pbuh, it is not due to burden of being a prophet but due to the revelations seemingly halted as if he was no longer needed as prophet of God.
