Contradictions Pictures
« on: November 18, 2012, 01:08:23 PM »
Peace
I read two articles, each one is concerned with picture making (whether, drawing, photography, painting, etc.), one said all types of picture-making is wrong (except in legal documents and wanted posters), the other said that it is OK depending on the purpose, they are both backed up with Quranic verses and hadith. Can you guys read both and tell which one is true
the articles are:
http://www.correctislamicfaith.com/picturesinislam.htm                                   this one said it is permissible
http://islamqa.info/en/ref/365                                                                           This one said it is forbidden
http://islamqa.info/en/ref/10668

I am asking this because i like to gatherings and take pictures for memory.

As-Salamu `Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh akhi,
Brother, is the first website reliable? They call Dr. Zakir Naik a hypocrite. http://www.cifiaonline.com/drnaiksislamicmask.htm
From what I know, the Hadiths state that if one draws a picture of an object with a soul, Almighty Allah will order him to blow life into on the Day of Judgement and he will not be able to. In addition, pictures of creatures with souls, statues of living creatures (besides plants) and dogs in the house prevent the Angels of Mercy from entering that household. I don't see how the idol made at the time of Prophet Moses (peace and blessings be upon him) is related to pictures. They sinned because they worshipped the idol besides Almighty Allah.
And Almighty Allah knows best.

The first website is written by a well known indian muslim scholar.
I know anbout that, i just want to know about what if you take photos, like if you on vacation, or with you friends.

I might not agree completely with either site (as i dont agree completely with zakik naik), but they r very knowledgeable on Islam. and both give very good arguments. so which one is right. im now tending towards correctislamicfaith, this also the view of al azhar.

I dont see what the harm is on taking pictures. Its not as if we're gonna dive on the floor and start worshipping them.

The 'Can you give detailed information on pictures and photos' is good.

I found this part in the first part a bit strange. 'Photos which belong to animate beings are either full body pictures which could live...' The pictures would have to be lifesize to live wouldnt they?

By the way, my Sheikh told me it's fine if you just keep it in a purse or somewhere.
