The challenge of the Quran

I have a few questions on this topic.
first one being: where do we get the criteria from?

What i mean is that the quran only says to bring something ''like'' it, so that could mean anything or what?

The noble Quran is miraculous in many things . Literately , scientifically , historically , and other fields . Mainly , Quran challenged people to bring forth something as miraculous as itself literately and not even the most eloquent Arabians could get close to it and that's what they admit . So indeed , let them bring forth their proof of truthful .

The text of the Glorious Quran is Miraculous.  The eloquence of the Holy Book's Text is a Miracle.  This is why Islam was able to spread rapidly among the Arabs.  The Text was something they've never read nor heard before.

The Spirit of the Holy Quran lives in the Holy Book.  This is what draws the people to Islam.  This is what deep inside calls upon the reader to embrace Islam, if he/she isn't a Muslim.  Paston Joe of TBN once warned his Arabic audience to not read the Holy Quran because "it has a special spirit in it that draws you to it."  I heard it from him loud and clear.

A mere man-made book is empty.  It feels empty and it is worthless.  This is why Allah Almighty Challenged the people, especially the Arabs, to produce anything like the Glorious Quran.  The Arabs were great poets.  Writing great text was their specialty.  Yet, their writings were nothing when they were put against the Holy Quran.  This is why they embraced Islam swiftly and by the wholesale.

Now as to us today, I personally focus on the Glorious Quran's Overwhelming Scientific Miracles.  This is where you can prove that Islam is indeed Divine for them, insha'Allah (if Allah Almighty is Willing).

If he said so then it is wrong . It's more than enough that the majors of literature couldn't dream to rival Quran and so they called it sorcery and all .

Thank you for all of your questions and contributions to this thread.  I just want to clarify a point.  I never said that people made books equal to the Holy Quran.  I said that people have attempted to make books similar to the Holy Quran.  But nonetheless, the Holy Quran's Text is Miraculous in:

1-  Text.
2-  Spirit.
3-  Miracles.

And I've already detailed these points above.  There are books out there that claim to be similar to the Holy Quran.  Also, after Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, passed away, some tried to come up with their own "books", such as Musaylamah Al-Kathab (Musaylamah the liar).  But their books were empty.  Their texts were nothing.  The Holy Quran, on the other hand, had a different Text in It.  It is Miraculous, and Its Arabic drew the reader to It.  This is why the Arabs embraced Islam by the wholesale.

Hmm, my question is rather; who decides the criteria? The quran is rather vauge is it not when it says "something like it"? This is just something i saw on ummah forum and could someone answer just the question? I have an answer myself but i wanna see what you have to say.

Your question is "who decides the criteria". So you must reflect upon this! It must look like the Quran and it must sound like the Quran and it must flow like the Quran.

What do I mean by it must flow like the Quran? The Quran has many numerical aspects to it some that we haven't discovered yet and others we are in the process. Like the number 19 miracle and the number 7 miracle!

Please go to this page and read both books! They explain the complex numerical consistency of the Quran! These are newly discovered and we are still working on them in the process. If we don't know all of the numerical codes/patterns in the Quran..then how can we make a Quran like it?
