Actually the earth isn't a perfect sphere it is an oblate spheroid. It doesn't exactly resemble an ostrich egg, but it may resemble some roundness.
This link here shows you other definitions of Daha besides egg, I believe Osama did a good job at his dictionary search! . http://www.answering-christianity.com/egg-shaped_earth.htm
But regardless of whether that verse was hinting at the shape of the earth or not, why does it matter?
Like we said before, the Quran must support 7th century belief while not contradicting our belief. So the Quran didn't directly tell you the earth is flat or that the night/day have an orbit--but it hinted at it to support 7th century belief, but it also gave hints in those same verses that do not contradict reality (our belief).
The same thing goes for evolution :), the Quran couldn't directly tell you that you are a primate as it would contradict 7th century belief and people would make fun of Muhammad (pbuh)! So the Quran gives precise language in hints at it so that it doesn't contradict either belief.

Assalamualykum.
Thank you brothers for your replies. But i want an refutation to the article I posted. It says the word "daha'' is not used for egg. It is used for the flattened depression where the ostrich deposits its eggs. Please read the article and please refute this. For some reasons I'm not able to post the article. So I posted its link.

Brother Osama please verify whether the sayings of the above article is true or false. It is really confusing me as I don't have sufficient knowledge in Arabic.

Wa Alaikum As'salam,
Dear brother, what's to verify? As always, these clowns write opinionated articles. They are no more than human-brainless copy machines and printers. They follow fatwas that only belong in the garbage. Did you see one dictionary reference in his article? No. In my article, which brother Mclinkin94 already gave you above, I provided ample references from several dictionaries, and gave ample examples of Arabic words that use "dah", and they refer to either spherical objects, rolling or moving objects. Again akhi, please visit: http://www.answering-christianity.com/egg-shaped_earth.htm.
Another point worth mentioning here is that Allah Almighty used Daha to refer to the expansion of the earth in a spherical and rotating mode. There are other Arabic words that Allah Almighty could've used that could've referred to the expansion of the earth. But Dahaha is indeed Miraculous and Perfect, because indeed, the earth didn't just expand. The earth expanded while rotating and traveling in space.
Furthermore, Allah Almighty did use stretch (madda) in the Glorious Quran for an End of Time Prophecy about the Earth: http://www.answering-christianity.com/end_of_times_volcanoes_caused_by_stretching_of_earth.htm.
I'd like to see these clowns that write shallow articles disprove any of this.
Take care,
Osama Abdallah
