Assalamualaikum,

Brother Osama you wrote a very interesting article...

I was wondering, what do you think of the mainstream Muslim interpretation that the Holy Spirit is Gabriel?

Wa Alaikum As'salam dear brother Shaad,

The Holy Spirit is not Angel Gabriel, peace be upon them both.  There is no proof that Angel Gabriel is the Holy Spirit.  The Glorious Quran clearly makes a distinction between the Holy Spirit and the Angels, and Gabriel is an Angel.  Please visit:

Interesting...but brother Osama one more thing which confuse me, there are two verses in the Quran which are quite similar and it seems to point out that the Holy Spirit is Jibreel, can you please share with me your opinion about it?

Quran 16:102-106

SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
Say, [O Muhammad], "The Pure Spirit has brought it down from your Lord in truth to make firm those who believe and as guidance and good tidings to the Muslims."

Quran 2:97

SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
Say, "Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel - it is [none but] he who has brought the Qur'an down upon your heart, [O Muhammad], by permission of Allah, confirming that which was before it and as guidance and good tidings for the believers."

As'salamu Alaikum dear brother Shaad,

Great points akhi.  Here is the response:

1-  Allah Almighty Said in Noble Verse 2:87 and 2:253, that He fortified Isa (Jesus peace be upon him) with the Holy Spirit: Also, Allah Almighty told Isa directly that "I fortified you with the Holy Spirit" اذ ايدتك بروح القدس .  See Noble Verse 5:110.

Jesus was also given the Book that enabled him to perform limited Miracles and even Creation:
www.answering-christianity.com/jesus_creating.htm

2-  Allah Almighty also fortifies His creations from humans and Angels and Jinns and others with the Spirit:

"He sends down the Angels by the Spirit and with His (Allah's) Command to whom He pleases from His creations..." See Noble Verse 16:2.

3-  Allah Almighty blows His Spirit "from my Spirit"  من روحي inside our mothers' wombs to create our Spirits (‏Noble Verse  15:29).  That's what He did with Adam after He made him flesh and blood, dust and water:

4-  When asked about the Spirit, Allah Almighty responded:

"They ask thee (Muhammad) concerning the Spirit, say it is by the Command of my Lord, and little of knowledge was given to you"

5-  Isa, peace be upon him, was also called "A Spirit from Allah" وروح منه.  See Noble Verse 4:171.

6-  Angels and the Holy Spirit are different:

The following Noble Verses make this abundantly clear:

"...The Angels and the Spirit..."

"The Day when the Spirit and the Angels stand in line...."

"The Angels and the Spirit descent in it (the Night of Power)...."

"The Trustworthy Spirit brought It (the Quran) down"

"The Holy Spirit روح القدس sent It (the Quran) down from your Lord...."

7-  Allah Almighty's Spirit "Our Spirit" روحنا appeared as a man to Mary to impregnate her:

Putting it all together:

So the Holy Spirit creates our spirits, fills the Angels, humans, Jinns and all creations by the Command of Allah Almighty, and is responsible for bringing down the Holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad through Angel Gabriel, peace be upon him.

Gabriel is not the Holy Spirit.  Gabriel follows the Commands of the Holy Spirit that are sent straight from Allah Almighty.  Allah Almighty made three realms:

(a)-  The realm of Allah and His Heaven.

(b)-  The World of Command.  This is where all of the Spirits and Selfs and Angels, and creations of the Spirit, and creations of the Word, and creations of the Light, and creations of the smokeless Fire, and creations of all other things are in.

(c)-  The World of flesh and blood, dust and water creation.

It seems clear that Allah Almighty made the Holy Spirit be the One in Charge to run the entire World of Command.  For more, please visit:

I think of it as my parents' sperm and egg.  Allah Almighty put those two microscopic beings to create me.  And made the Holy Spirit blow my spirit in this flesh and blood creation of me.  Angel Gabriel did not blow the Spirit in me.

I hope this helps, Insha'Allah.

Take care,
Osama Abdallah
