Was Adam 90 feet (60 cubits) tall?

1-  Prophet Muhammad's Sayings:

The Noble Quran and Islam are filled with scientific statements and notions.  These are statements of Allah Almighty describing how He created things on earth and in the Universe.  What's most amazing is that all of these scientific statements and notions had been proven to be in perfect agreement with science and our modern-day scientific discoveries.  Allah Almighty made the Noble Quran be Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) Everlasting Divine Miracle and proof for Prophethood.  The Holy Book certainly stood the test of time 1,500 years ago with Its Claims, Prophecies and Miraculous language eloquence, and it does again and again in our day today with Its overwhelming agreement with science and discoveries that were not known to man 1,500 years ago.

Allah Almighty Said: "We will show them Our signs in the Universe and inside their selves, until it will become quite clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not sufficient as regards your Lord that He is a witness over all things?  (The Noble Quran, 41:53)"

With this said, let us look at what Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said about Prophet Adam, peace be upon him:

Narrated Abu Huraira:  The Prophet said, "Allah created Adam, making him 60 cubits tall. When He created him, He said to him, "Go and greet that group of angels, and listen to their reply, for it will be your greeting (salutation) and the greeting (salutations of your offspring." So, Adam said (to the angels), As-Salamu Alaikum (i.e. Peace be upon you). The angels said, "As-salamu Alaika wa Rahmatu-l-lahi" (i.e. Peace and Allah's Mercy be upon you). Thus the angels added to Adam's salutation the expression, 'Wa Rahmatu-l-lahi,' Any person who will enter Paradise will resemble Adam (in appearance and figure). People have been decreasing in stature since Adam's creation.  (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 55, Number 543)"

Narrated Abu Huraira:  Allah's Apostle said, "The first group of people who will enter Paradise, will be glittering like the full moon and those who will follow them, will glitter like the most brilliant star in the sky. They will not urinate, relieve nature, spit, or have any nasal secretions. Their combs will be of gold, and their sweat will smell like musk. The aloes-wood will be used in their centers. Their wives will be houris. All of them will look alike and will resemble their father Adam (in statute), sixty cubits tall."  (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 55, Number 544)"

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:  "The first group of my Ummah to get into Paradise would be like a full moon in the night. Then those who would be next to them; they would be like the most significantly glittering stars in regard to brightness, then after them (others) in ranks. They would neither void excrement, nor pass water, nor suffer from catarrh, nor would they spit. And their combs would be made of gold, and the fuel of their braziers would be aloes and their sweat would be musk and their form would be the form of one single person according to the length of their father sixty cubits tall. This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Ibn Abi Shaiba with a slight variation of wording.  (Translation of Sahih Muslim, Book 040, Number 6796)"

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:  "Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, created Adam in His own image with His length of sixty cubits, and as He created him He told him to greet that group, and that was a party of angels sitting there, and listen to the response that they give him, for it would form his greeting and that of his offspring. He then went away and said: Peace be upon you! They (the angels) said: May there be peace upon you and the Mercy of Allah, and they made an addition of" Mercy of Allah". So he who would get into Paradise would get in the form of Adam, his length being sixty cubits, then the people who followed him continued to diminish in size up to this day. (Translation of Sahih Muslim, Book 040, Number 6809)"

2-  The Scientific Discoveries:

A few weeks ago, as of Sunday, January 3, 2009, I watched on the History Channel a program called "Evolve", which talked about not only how animals supposedly evolved in our planet earth, but also how they would creatures look like on other supposed planets in the universe using evolution's theories.  One of the striking statements that were made by one of the the scientists in the film was something like the following:

(The quote is not exact and the film series are not in distribution yet.  Once I obtain the film series, I will give the exact quote and the scientist's name or the scientists' names, insha'Allah (if Allah Almighty is Willing))

"The smaller the planet with life in it, like our planet earth, then the lesser its gravity and the bigger the bodies of the creatures will be on it.  This is to enable them to make up for the lack of more gravity.  Think of it as space suits giving more weight to the individuals in space to make up for the loss or lack or decrease in gravity. 

On the other hand, the bigger the planet, then the more its gravity will be, and the smaller will be the creatures that live on it to balance out the constant pull of the gravity.  Earth's constant and steady expansion throughout the billions of years of its existence is what caused for the constant and steady reduction of the creatures' sizes that lived on it.  Humans were much bigger and heavier than what they are now primarily because of earth's smaller size."  (http://shop.history.com/detail.php?p=70393)

Therefore, it should be of no conflict with science to claim that Adam's size, or man's initial size on earth in general, was in the neighborhood of 90 feet tall, or that the first human-race ever walked on earth was around 90 feet tall, give or take 10 to 20 feet between the creatures' differences in heights as we today have people who are as tall as 7 feet and as short as 2 feet tall.  The reason for this is simply because the planet earth was much much much smaller than what it is now.

I do not see how the statements of the Prophet of Islam above are in conflict with science in anyway!

We can even use it to determine when man first existed on earth!

On the contrary, I see a very beautiful and miraculous statement by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, peace be upon him, because when we bring his statements above and examine them in light of Allah Almighty's Divine Statements, in the main-section below, about planet earth, we're then left with a very beautiful and Scientific Statement that is not only in perfect agreement with science about earth used to be smaller than what it is now, and that since earth was smaller, then the creatures had to be much larger, which clearly explains why earth, for instance, had dinosaurs on it in the past, but we can also use the Prophet's Statements about man's initial height to estimate man's initial average size and weight, and to determine how much force was gravity pulling and how big was earth, and approximately how many millions or billions of years ago did the first man walk on earth!

Prophet Muhammad's, peace be upon him, statements above seem to be quite clearly in perfect agreement with science and with the way earth was shaped and how it hosted life on it throughout the past few billions of years.  Yes indeed, planet earth was much smaller than what it is now, which explains why creatures like the dinosaurs were much larger than what we are.  The more size earth gained, the more gravity it gained, and thus the lesser our bodies became to balance out with the constant pull of gravity.  Thus, it would be of no surprise to discover that Adam, peace be upon him, was indeed in the neighborhood of 90 feet tall, or that the first human-race ever walked on earth was in the neighborhood of 90 feet tall, give or take 10 to 20 feet in difference, since we today also have ranges of heights among people, where we find humans who are as tall as 7 feet and even taller, and humans who are as short as 2 feet and even shorter.

Also, as I suggested above, we can even use the Holy Prophet's Statements, of man's initial height being 60 cubits, to estimate his average size and weight, and to determine how much force was gravity pulling and how big was earth, and approximately how many millions or billions of years ago did the first man walk on earth!

Indeed, all Praise and Glory are due to Allah Almighty alone for making the Noble Quran be the Perfect and Everlasting Miracle, for us humans, out of all of His Divine Miracles!  And may Allah Almighty send His Peace, Mercy and Blessings upon our Beloved and Blessed Prophet, Teacher and Role Model, Muhammad.  Ameen.
